CPR Training

CPR and AED training are two different steps in the process of saving the life of someone suffering from cardiac arrest. ... “AED” stands for automated external defibrillator and there is a big difference between CPR and AED training even though both are usually covered in the same class. Rapid CPR and early defibrilation has proven to save many lives.

General Course Information

YOU CAN MAKE THE DIFFERENCE

Most CPR class being taught today are following the 2015 American Heart Association guidelines making training fairly similar. The difference between many are the “certifying” organization and who is credible or accepted where you may need to provide a certification card. MSTI teaches with the top two recognized organizations to ensure certification is at the highest level of training and competency. All of our classes require hands-on skills performance and critical thinking. The biggest difference is if you need certification by an employer or organization.

Course topics include:

  • Understanding the chain of survival
  • Scene safety and BSI
  • Establishing responsiveness and calling for help
  • Performing high quality CPR for the adult, child, and infant patient *
  • Patient airway and rescue breathing
  • Unusual or emergency situations
  • Choking procedures and the recovery position
  • Items with an * may vary dependent upon the course, or  certifying organization
  • Anyone in the medical field, EMS, public safety, lifeguards and other health care fields
  • dental offices, dentists and dental assistants, medical labs
  • Companies that have particularly dangerous jobs or positions that put employees at risk including security, utility services, and corrections
  • Those being required under regulations from OSHA or Department of Labor
  • Those caring for children or the elderly including, babysitters, day care, nursing homes, home care, senior centers, or public facility
  • Scout leaders, camp counselors, bus drivers, hunting guides,  whitewater guides or other outdoor/adventure 
  • Anyone and everyone should learn CPR. It saves lives!
  • On-hands practice will be required during this course and as part of the skills assessments
  • Performing high-quality CPR in the methods established and practiced will be monitored and evaluated
  • All students must perform required skills competently without assistance to receive a certification card
  • A written test will be administered for the completion of this course with a passing score of 75%
  • This course will be conducted indoors however it will require bending and kneeling on a floor. Be physically able to perform in these conditions and dressed accordingly
  • The certification card is included in course good for 2-years

All students are eligible to attend and considered for certification without regard to race, color, religion, gender, national origin, age (unless specific minimum age requirements are set by the certifying authority), marital status, sexual orientation, medical condition, or disability.

  • This Course is developed to provide the necessary training and skills to take the American Health and Safety Institution (ASHI) Exam
  • The Wilderness First Aid course is designed to give the knowledge and creative concepts to perform the job under unusual situations and when help is hours or days away.

AHA - CPR Basic Life Support

AHA Certificate

Valid: 2 Years

This course is approved for EMS Professionals and other Emergency and Acute Hospital workers. The BLS Course trains participants to promptly recognize several life-threatening emergencies, give high-quality chest compressions, deliver appropriate ventilations and provide early use of an AED.

In the Instructor-led course, students participate in simulated clinical scenarios using a BVM, integrate the AED, 2-person CPR, Chocking, and review unusual situations.

Course Content

• High-quality CPR for adults, children, and infants • The AHA Chain of Survival, specifically the BLS components • Use of an AED • Effective ventilations using a barrier device • Importance of teams in multi-rescuer resuscitation and performance as an effective team member during multirescuer CPR • Relief of foreign-body airway obstruction (choking) for adults and infants

AHA - CPR BLS Refresher

AHA Certificate

Valid: 2 Years

This course is approved for EMS Professionals and other Emergency and Acute Hospital workers. This is a refresher course to review changes in CPR, revised guidelines, and perform skills testing to ensure the delivery of  high-quality chest compressions and ventilations while integrating the AED.

This review course, promotes critical thinking and teamwork while performing simulated clinical scenarios using a BVM, AED, 2-person CPR, Chocking, and the review of unusual situations.

AHA - Heart Saver CPR

AHA Certificate

Valid: 2 Years

Heartsaver CPR AED is an instructor-led course that teaches adult and child CPR and AED use, infant CPR, and how to relieve choking in adults, children, and infants. This course teaches skills with the AHA’s research-proven practice and allows instructors to observe the students performance, and guide the students’ learning of skills.

This course is for anyone with limited or no medical training who needs a course completion card to meet job, regulatory, or other requirements.

AHA CPR Courses

  • Reading and comprehension at a 6th-grade level, or equivalent.
  • Minimum age of 16 years old
  • Physical and mental ability to perform the skills, tasks, and administrative requirements necessary for the job
  • AHA BLS CPR/AED certification. If not current or soon to expire, classes will be be available to take through MST6
